Sexy Sunday: 3 hr dress

Made this on Saturday during the shows. Copied the top of my evening gown pattern and drafted the skirt pattern, cut and sewn during the matinee. It's pretty cute, right? Also, knits are great, no closures!

Sexy Sunday: Easters!

I was going to wear my striped dress I got in NYC...but it's too short (my whole knee shows!). Did I not notice this when I tried it on? It's got about an inch to let down...and I guess I'll just wear it during the week and not to church.

So...I pulled out another vintage dress I have and that I like. It doesn't have the thrill of a new dress, but no one at church had seen it so they were full of compliments.

Miss P got a new dress. I'm holding her hand so she doesn't pick her nose. Classy.

Sexy Sunday: Vintage

It was a vintage day. 1960s to be precise, but a more accurate year I cannot say. The dress is early 60's, the coat is later, if I had to guess. I took my orange winter coat to the dry cleaners but then it got all wintery again...luckily I had ANOTHER orange coat. Aren't I a lucky girl?
From my friend Erin.
Thank you thank you!

Sexy Sunday: double the pleasure, double the fun

totally unplanned, but totally sexy.

Alicia and I are two stylin' babes that share the same mind about 87% of the time. The other 13% is because her brain is full of art history stuff and mine is full of costumey stuff..which actually now that I think of it might close the gap to a difference of like 7%.

Alicia also tipped me off to this entry of My Daguerreotype Boyfriend, which if you don't check up on every nowandagain you should.

And yes, that link is a picture of old-timey Benedict Cumberbatch.

Sexy Sunday: curtain skirt.

I got so many compliments at church today I thought I'd make a Sexy Sunday entry. The picture's pretty gross, and you can tell I really need to get my hairs trimmed, and not a flattering angle, but...

-shirt is from Seoul
-skirt is upholstry fabric Martha's mom gave me. It's busy times and I love it. the back hem is giant box pleats
-shoes are Nine West

Sexy Sunday: navy pencil skirt

If you were following me at all on facebook yesterday you know I spent my Saturday watching Avatar and making a navy pencil skirt. This is the 5th time I've made this pattern which is my sloper from my fitting unit in undergad. It's a basic eight dart skirt with a faced vent in the CB. This one has a lapped CB zipper bc it's what my mom had (I could swear I had a navy zipper somewhere...). I have a bow that I'm debating putting on the waistband at the front or CB or maybe even above the vent in the back, but haven't decided. Photo with the cardigan is what I wore to church for real.

Opening Night Pictures

If you're my facebook friend you've seen these. I didn't take any pictures of myself bc frankly I feel vain when I do and it's such a bother, so poo poo all you want, but this is what you get.

Friend Allison and Jack and I got ready at Jack's and had a blast. I'd put my hair in curlers all day. You can't tell, but my hairs are curly curly heaps of curls. I also have a huge splay of coque feathers in my hairs curtsey of Jack. I look like I'm slouching in the photos because the shoulder pads in the dress tilt forward. I was very conscientious about keeping my shoulders back, so was a little startled to see how much it looks like I'm rolling them forward.

It was a wonderful night and I felt great and I can't wait for the crossover party so I can wear the Balenciaga I'm going to make! I LIVE to dress up and look pretty!

PS I'm labeling this as Sexy Sunday bc the party went into Sunday morning...

Sexy Sunday: Breakfast at Tiffany's

I went to St. George yesterday and got super cute new shoes (and the COMPLETE Jeeves and Wooster!) so I had to put together a super cute outfit! This was more difficult than you would think bc my summer wardrobe is almost entirely brown neutral and I wore my only power neutral skirt last week and I'd worn my black cardigan yesterday and blah blah blah. Moral of the story is it worked out and I call this my Breakfast at Tiffany's look bc I'm wearing my Tiffany blue skirt and my hair's so so high and huge on my head. Also, ever since I got an angled brush cateyes are the easiest things ever (not that you can even tell in this picture bc my eyes are the squintiest)! I have half a mind to do a before and after Sunday make up post bc I love make up so much!

cardigan: Target
black leotard: some dance store in Provo from my ballet class
necklace and earrings: Forever 21 (necklace is from Santa Monica store)
skirt: made by me
shoes: Naturalizer from Dillards

Sexy Sunday: March edition

It's been awhile. All my Sundays are sexy, but frankly I'm not into taking posey pictures of myself and getting other people to take them makes me feel awkward and I'm so tall it's hard to fit me in a normal camera frame in a flattering manner. Even photographers at shoots I've done have had a hard time.

Anydoctorwho, here's what I looked like for church today. I went home after the first hour bc I'm sick, so if I look a little down in the mouth, that's why.

Gold earrings: Target
Blouse: Target
Belt: Forever 21
Skirt: made by me
Golden Fly Bracelet (so Egyptian!): Banana Republic
Shoes: Nine West

Those are my new shoes! Well, the blouse and earrings are too, and I've worn the earrings everyday since I got them, but those are my new Nine West leather pumps and I love them. I always think of Mae West when I see Nine West, so in my mind it's kind of slutty but alluring brand.

For those of you in the know, yes I am visiting my 'rents in Nebraska and yes, those are baby pictures of my older sisters behind me. My photo's just behind my torso, which is a shame bc I was the most beautiful baby ever, true story, my nurse said so.

My favorite stores.

It's a wonderful day when everything you wear comes from one of four places: The Gap, Eddie Bauer, Nordstrom or was made by yourself. I give you my Sunday outfit. I will admit, it is not Sexy. I'm out of contacts and was running late and it was stormy so end of the story was this outfit. I never want to wear flats to church again, but bottom line is every piece I wore (minus jewelry and the glasses) was from one of these places. I'd also accept Banana Republic as a suitable source for my favorite clothes.
scarf: The Gap
jacket: Eddie Bauer
skirt: made by me

tights: The Gap
shoes: Nordstrom (size 41, yup, they're European)

Project: black jersey dress

A couple of weeks ago I went shopping and got it into my head that I wanted to buy some cute stuff, probably because I've basically been wearing the same suitcase clothes since May. After a successful trip to Banana resulting in a pair of pants, but nothing from the Gap which was a huge bummer I went to Target and got two cardigans and a jersey dress on sale, w/o trying it on. Turns out, even though I held it up to myself in the store, that is was too short, shocker. I demand my skirts reach my mid knee standing and still hit top knee when seated, which makes it no surprise that I've made almost all of my skirts or dresses.
Cute dress right?
about 5" too short, shocker
Since the hem is kind of a wrap deal I decided to lengthen it at the waist by adding a band between the bodice and skirt pieces. I was going to use a black sweatshirt jersey I have, but it was too heavy and it was printed black, not woven that way, so I ended up using a lightweight grey jersey with some sparkle to it. I decided that adding all the length at the waist would make the band too wide and throw off the proportions so I only did a 3" waistband.
Cute right? Eh, as you can see below, of course the band hit right over tummy and boney hips. Deep down I knew this was going to happen because miracle of miracles the bodice actually fit my torso, so of course the band would start at my waist and go down. There wasn't much I could do about this short of buying a new dress. So yeah, unflattering, and still a little too short.
Since it was still a little short I decided to add a 2" band to each strap thinking this might be a cute detail, knowing full well that only adding length on the front straps would make the dress dip in the front, but I wanted to keep this project to 3 hours so I went with it, plus blasphemy of blasphemies, I didn't really care, it was a cheap dress.
The straps came out well, but I finished them crappily b/c I was kind of over the project by now.Still looks kind of cute on the form at this point.
But I didn't bother to account for my shoulder asymmetries as you can see...
So I cover them with my hair. Adding the straps did add length, but really just makes the neckline lower if I wear the waist where it was designed to sit so...
I pulled it down as far as it needed to go to hit the right spot and covered it with one of my new cardigans. Overall it was a Sexy Sunday, so success! I don't really intend to ever wear this dress w/o a cardigan bc of the no sleeve situation. I had an idea that it could be a jumper of sorts with cute shirt underneath, but my finishing is so bad on the straps I wouldn't dare.

Overall, for a $12 dress I think it was an ok deal.

Sexy Sundays

My sister and her roommates used to have designated Sexy Sundays on which they'd make sure they were super smokin' for church. I adopted this when I went to the fashion show that is BYU. Looking back I can't say I always had the greatest style, but I think I've really gotten into a pretty sexy groove. Every Sunday is Sexy Sunday for me, because a) it's the one day a week I actually make an effort because I work with all women and b) I love to do my hair and make up and doll myself up.

Here's my outfit I wore last week. Cardigan on sale at Target, skirt made by me for like $5, shoes from Payless and brooch and earrings are Martha's.

This is what I wore today. The dress is from Target which I altered to make long enough (project journal to come), cardi from Target, tights from Gap, shoes from Payless, earrings from Forever 21.

And my hair from this week was awesome as well. It naturally finger waves, be jealous.

And I have TONS of hair recently!!! I know it's long, but it's taken so long to get to this point that I always covet longer hair.

And does anyone else think that the blonde streak UNDER my hair hilarious?
