Sherlock: His Last Vow

:::People are arguing that CBS's Elementary is more human and likable and has more room to grow, but if getting more glimpses into Sherlock's crazy childhood mind palace sociopathy and then having him kill a man to make John's life better isn't human I don't know what is. And then accepting an assignment whose goal is to kill him isn't loyalty and love, I don't know what is.
:::I have a TV with bad sound and picture so I understood almost nothing that was whispered, nor could read anything Magnussen remembered so I'll definitely have to rewatch this.
:::So...Sherlock's no longer "The Virgin"? I mean...
:::Will The Woman come back? Her episode might still be my favorite...for entertainment value. This one ranks second for emotional damage after Fall.

Case Histories Series 2

I think just Martha and I ever watched this show. It's awesome. I've blogged about it before (here and here). Well, Martha, this one's for you.

I finally got around to checking on the filming of series two. Seems like it filmed last October and is going to air on BBC1 this year. I'd guess we're looking at a fall PBS premiere.

Since Sherlock hasn't started filming series three yet, and we're most likely looking at a 2014 release, I'd say ya'll that didn't watch Case Histories the first time around might want to get on board to keep some amazingly written and acted British mystery solving in your life.

Cumberbatch and Sherlock win awards

Sherlock won best movie or mini-series at the Critics' Choice TV Awards and Benedict Cumberbatch won best actor in a movie or mini-series. I think with all this high praise Ben should film series three then take some down time to lead at a US regional theatre, and I know of just the one (USF, cough cough).

Sherlock 3 filming

Sherlock 3 filming will begin in January says Steven Moffatt. Co-creator Mark Gatiss will be writing the first episode based on "The Adventure of the Empty House". John will be very angry when he finds out Sherlock isn't dead.

Andrew Scott aka Moriarty has suggested that perhaps Sherlock's nemesis isn't gone for good. Scott told RadioTime.com that “It’s very hard for him to come back. But nothing is impossible”.

Reichenbach postulating

We know that Molly probably helped with the body identification/autopsy.

We know Sherlock probably picked the roof of St. Bart's bc that's where Molly could help and he knew that it would come down to his death.

We know something probably went down when John got hit by the biker.

We know whomever fell from St. Barts was alive, or at least animate bc he was moving in the air, obvs not a dummy.

We know Sherlock was very adamant that John stay far away from Sherlock, exactly at a certain point.

We know the little girl screamed when Sherlock came in.

My guess...A Sherlock look alike was used to kidnap the girl, hence the screaming. Sherlock figured this out, and that Moriarty wanted him to kill himself so he used the look alike in some way (killed him? harsh for Sherlock) in conjunction with the bike collision and John's shock to  confuse and convince John that it was his body, which was of course quickly whisked away to be processed by Molly.

Filming for series 3 won't even start until 2013 when all the Hobbit business has blown over. I guess The Hobbit will have to fill my Cumberbatch/Freeman need.

Reichenbach Fall

There is litchrally a puddle of tears on my desk, litchrally.

Duh Sherlock didn't die, if you know Sherlock Holmes you know he doesn't actually die at Reichenbach Falls, but it's still so so sad! And John's so loyal.

Really Sherlock? Irene Adler told you she wasn't dead when John asked her to, you can't tell John you're not dead when he asks you to?

But if Moriarty killed himself who can the next great villain be? I should probs read some Sherlock Holmes.

Mycroft had to have helped.

NO! Molly helped! She does matter!...but how did she help? She can give him blood and fake the autopsy and...she had to have done it. Good ol' Molly.

However it went down, stuff happened when John got knocked over by the biker.

Elementary: more info

This one's for tkangeroo, which is pretty funny because I found this video this morning and thought ab blogging ab it but didn't have enough time.



Elementary, mentioned previously, is America's answer to Sherlock starring Lucy Liu as Joan Watson and Johnny Lee Miller as Holmes in present day New York. Sherlock is brilliant and I kind of want to hate Elementary like you're supposed to hate your best friend's enemy, but I'm hesitant to do so yet. I think that having Watson as a woman, while novel, misses the boat on one of the best bromances in history. If you watch above clip Lucy explains that Joan is the emotional side to the story, like this is novel somehow. That's Watson's job. Sherlock does seem to have sharper edges in this one, tattoos, six pack and addiction and all, but we'll see if that translates to the incredibly steely and detached yet arresting likability of the character.

Elementary will be on CBC on Thursday nights at 10pm/et

Remember how my heart broke for Sherlock like every 2 minutes, esp when she said she was gay even though I knew she was lying or bi?

Remember how it's been far far too long since I've heard 90 minutes of Benedict Cumberbatch's inappropriately terrific voice (and that's putting it politely).

Lucy Lui will play Joan Watson in an American version of Sherlock Holmes set in NYC. Jonny Lee Miller, Benedict Cumberbatch's co-star in the National's ravely reviewed production of Frankenstein will play Sherlock Holmes. Main concept is that Holmes is British, a former Scotland Yard consultant that has been shipped off to NYC for drug rehab. Watson is his sober roommate, a former surgeon that now consults for the NYPD. Pilot will air on CBS. I'm intrigued, but I feel like making Watson a woman gives this just another Castle type vibe, and do we need another Sherlock? For me you have Jeremy Brett and now Benedict Cumberbatch.

It's been a great couple of years for awesome British TV. Downton's got a third season, and now Sherlock! Reminder: Second season of Sherlock is on PBS May 6-20. First season is available on Netflix instant play. Can't wait to see the 2nd and the 3rd!

Cumberbatch in Star Trek and Sherlock dates

I know I've been gone so I should be very in the mood to blog, but I'm not. I'm rather tired from work and kind of just want to Netflix all night because it's been three days since I've had internet. Heaven forbid. Now I do have interwebs though and I'm very excited about the new January shows!

I'm down at USF building costumes for the educational tour and LOVE being back with theatre people. I don't know that there are many other jobs where you know you'll have immediate friends as soon as you get there. Tour is especially nice in this regard because it's such a small group. I've already made a skirt and took notes for all the fittings today. I love being in fittings. I like being in the loop and I love writing fitting notes.

Benedict Cumberbatch has been announced as a cast member for the second Star Trek movie. He is most likely going to play a villain. Star Trek, Sherlock, The Hobbit. So many opportunities to watch Cumberbatch! I won't pretend his eyebrows aren't too light for his face, or that he doesn't look sort of like an alien fish with his ethereal Sherlock cheekbones, but the man can act and has the most beautiful voice. I'm excited to get to watch him and Zack Quinto for two hours in space. Also in Star Trek is Mickey from Doctor Who. Just found this article bc I've been curious all day about when the new Sherlock series will be out (UK series=US season, UK programme=US series). Looks like we have to wait until May 2012 to see the new series in the US on PBS, poop. BUT if you click on above article you'll find a promo for the second series. Hound of the Baskervilles! Sherlock and Law and Order: UK

I spent the entire day watching the BBC's Sherlock, a 21st century adaptation of the Doyle character starring Benedict Cumberbatch (To the Ends of the Earth, Amazing Grace) and Martin Freeman (UK Office, future Bilbo Baggins). Three episodes, all an hour and a half each, available on PBS's Masterpiece Mystery site until the 7th of December, amazing. With a great performance by Cumberbatch who looks so tall but is only 6'1"ish, this series is witty, fresh but classic. Freeman as Watson's chemistry with Cumberbatch's Sherlock is great. Filmed on location in London, it made me pine for it even more than I have been. It's co-written by Steven Moffat of amazing Doctor Who fame (Blink, Silence in the Libarary, the new Matt Smith season as head writer). This blog post is pretty incoherent, unlike the show, which is great. The new series starts filming in May. Better get my tickets to go and stock it NOW!

Also, Law and Order: UK=awesome. Just as piney for London as Sherlock.
