Make Up Voyeur...

I'm super proud of my make up maintenance and storage. I travel and move a lot, so I don't have the luxury of a permanent make up storage solution, and I don't really mind. I've got a craft caddy that works GREAT! It's got a lot of compartments, none of them are closed (but many can be) and when I travel I just stick my brushes and loose ends in the middle and "shut it" with my lipstick bag. 

I also love it because it keeps everything separate and clean. I was taught relentlessly by my make up teacher to keep things clean and tidy. I HATE broken or messy make up and am kind of a voyeur when it comes to other people's make up storage. I don't poke around or anything...I just take note of make up habits, anywhere from a tidy little bag with only the necessities to a tackle box of anything and everything. I may have a messy bathroom or bedroom, but my make up case is pristine. Same with my sewing kit and art box...

Anyway, kind of an intimate thing, but here's my make up case! I can't rave enough about my system. My sister commented the other day that I have a lot of make up, but I would beg to differ and could cite a lot of other women (and men) with much more, or at least much messier. 

Sexy Sunday: Breakfast at Tiffany's

I went to St. George yesterday and got super cute new shoes (and the COMPLETE Jeeves and Wooster!) so I had to put together a super cute outfit! This was more difficult than you would think bc my summer wardrobe is almost entirely brown neutral and I wore my only power neutral skirt last week and I'd worn my black cardigan yesterday and blah blah blah. Moral of the story is it worked out and I call this my Breakfast at Tiffany's look bc I'm wearing my Tiffany blue skirt and my hair's so so high and huge on my head. Also, ever since I got an angled brush cateyes are the easiest things ever (not that you can even tell in this picture bc my eyes are the squintiest)! I have half a mind to do a before and after Sunday make up post bc I love make up so much!

too horrible by half: eyeliner gone bad

Oh eyeliner, oh how oh how it can wreck your whole face.

I have small eyes, I also have purple bags under my eyes. I've come to accept the fact that eyeliner is not my friend. In fact, unless I'm as chipper as a new born goose (b/c I'd assume they're chipper) and use permanent marker my eyeliner will move and make me look like a insomniac domestic abuse victim. I think that this is a fact that many women refuse to accept about their own eyeliner usage. The days of all over eyeliner should be over. You're not in middle school anymore.
BAD BAD BAD Too much eyeliner, and too dark. If you're fair, try a brown shade.

Here's a tip, and what I do that works wonders: only put your eyeliner on your top lid, starting in the middle and going out (see below). You don't need any more than that! This opens up your eyes and if you want to get really fancy, make it thicker at the corners and maybe add a little to the bottom lid, but that's enough. Seriously, unless you have Bambi eyes, eyeliner is not meant to go all the way around as a day look.



If you insist on framing your entire eye, I can only stress the importance of fine lines and drawing on the ledge. The closer to your eye the better.
This was an experiment I did when I was 17. It took me forever to get the liner that close to my eyes, but doesn't it look great? I also added white shimmer to the inside of my eyes to brighten them. I would never wear this on a normal day. I've ventured this much eye makeup for formal events, but I'm way too big a fan of the natural look to wear so much liner.

Another helpful hint: eyelash curlers! I'd only dabbled with mine until recently, but they do wonders for the size of your eyes. Starting as close to your roots as possible, crimp your lash, then work the curler out and up to get a smooth curl. So great!!
