Sexy Sunday: Vintage

It was a vintage day. 1960s to be precise, but a more accurate year I cannot say. The dress is early 60's, the coat is later, if I had to guess. I took my orange winter coat to the dry cleaners but then it got all wintery again...luckily I had ANOTHER orange coat. Aren't I a lucky girl?

Silk gazar

Jackjack worked with silk gazar this fall in NYC and I finally got to see it at Mood. This stuff is incredible. If you can imagine a quadruple weight organza then you're getting close.

Wikipedia says:

Gazar (also gazaar) is a silk or wool plain weave fabric made with high-twist double yarns woven as one. Gazar has a crisp hand and a smooth texture.

Gazar was developed by the Swiss textile firm Alexander in collaboration with Basque couturier Cristobal Balenciaga, who featured silk gazar in his collections of 1960-68. Balenciaga's mastery of this gleaming, lightweight fabric with its "claylike" ability to hold its shape was exemplified by the trapezoid wedding gowns in his collections of 1967 and 1968.

Oscars 2013: Best Dressed

Overall the show didn't wow me. I'm not blaming Seth MacFarlane. He's adorable and friend Alicia and I wanted to just eat him up and/or pet him the whole night. Pet him? Yeah, maybe.

We talked through a lot of it, which if you know me means it couldn't have been that great (or that Alicia and I just talk, a lot )...I'm fairly certain I missed most of the craziest jokes. I did love Charlize Theron and Channing Tatum dancing (where did  that come from?), and all the pretty pretty boys in the opening.

I saw very few of the films that were nominated this year. Basically just Les Mis...yep, that's it.

I felt like the fashions were nothing particularly special and many wore what they always seem to wear. A lot of beads and sequins and bullion and embellishments this year. I'm over it.

There was also a trend of poorly fitted busts. Leaving the rest out of it, Jennifer Lawrence's bust fit so poorly. Same with Jennifer Aniston's and many others that either needed a lot more structure or just got crumpled and were rather sad looking.

She's my major girl crush and will always be.

Amanda Seyfried in Alexander McQueen.
Was better on film. I was on the fence about this dress for awhile,
but when she doesn't slouch her shoulders and collapse
the neckline and when you get the full shot it's rather divine. 

Jessica Chastain in Armani
This gown is the perfect color between her skin and hair.
It's also beautifully beaded without being overwhelming.

Kerry Washinton in Mui Mui
This dress also grew on me.
I didn't like it so much on the red carpet.
BUT, the skirt sold me during her presentation.
The color is amazing. I am not sick of coral yet. 

Octavia Spencer in Tadashi Shoji
Either Octavia or her stylist knows how to dress this woman.
 Last year she was stunning, this year as well. 

Queen Latifah in Badgley Mischka
She looked better than any other Chicago performer.
Seeing her on stage giving an award to Adele made my life. 

Outerwear!

I love fall and winter if for no reason other than I can wear all my pretty layers. One item I consistently have to stop myself from buying is a new coat. I've stopped myself from buying so many raincoats because I already have one...but someday I'll have all the things!

I think it's important to not only have an array of outerwear for climate variations, but also because let's face it: in the fall and winter there can be entire days where your outfit is whatever you picked to wear on the outside. This is how it was when I went to London and walked around all day and when I was in Seoul. What I wore under the warm things was rarely seen. Also an array of gloves, scarves, and hats is important for the same reason.

for bronze ones I got in Seoul.

I wear this jacket the most. It's 100% wool and spans fall and winter.

Bavarian Eisenhower Jacket, or at least that's what I call it.

Santa Monica 8 months after I fell in love with it in London.

it has tails and is the softest animal skin you've ever felt. So supple.

2012 Primetime Emmy Awards

I've never watched the Emmys before bc frankly I have never really cared. I stopped watching TV in the middle of high school and really didn't pick it up again until last year, but I'm with my sister for the weekend so I actually had a TV for to watch the Emmys on. So here's the rundown. I will say overall I was impressed as I was appalled at the informality of last year's Oscars, mostly in hairdos. And I didn't watch much pregame, so I'll only really be speaking to the fashions during the show...aaaaand I'm really not "in the mood" but this was a request, so here you go!

Tina Fey wins the prize of my heart, always. She's my hero and I want to be her minus the acting part...but maybe? She's just great and is always a hit with me in the dressing department. She's classy and appropriate and simple, but always with a little something special.

I can't get over Julia Louis Dreyfus' dress. It was special and classy and the skirt was just to die for when you saw it on screen.

Hayden Panettiere's dress was much more special than this straight on. It was very interesting and while I dunno if I'd wear it it was something great.

My sister and I couldn't get over how great Claire Danes looked! Of all the yellow at the show (and it was everywhere!) I liked hers the best. We bet it's the maternity glow that makes her looks so great. But really, she was stunning, and oh Hugh Dancy, you could have had me!

Jane Levy. I dunno who this girl is, it's amazing how much TV I have no idea about, but I like her styling and the color and the dress overall. Nothing incredibly new, but just really nice all the same.

Ok...here are some iffy ones...

Lucy Lui. This dress is amazing and she looks amazing, but it confuses me and reminds me of the princess during the pageant of The Swan Princess that's from where they make all the armor and she has shields all over her face...

Julianna Margulies. I appreciate a print, and I actually don't mind this one. It filmed a lot better and was metallic and I don't mind the 60s upholstery look. I am confused abou t the center front seam though...Jury's out on this one.

I've been rewatching 30 Rock and when I saw Edie Falco on the red carpet I was like "Hey! It's CC!". Turns out she's also Nurse Jackie....anyway, I don't have anything against this dress, I'm just pointing out US Weekly had a spread last week of 5 other girls wearing it too, wah wah. One week too late!

Opening Night Pictures

If you're my facebook friend you've seen these. I didn't take any pictures of myself bc frankly I feel vain when I do and it's such a bother, so poo poo all you want, but this is what you get.

Friend Allison and Jack and I got ready at Jack's and had a blast. I'd put my hair in curlers all day. You can't tell, but my hairs are curly curly heaps of curls. I also have a huge splay of coque feathers in my hairs curtsey of Jack. I look like I'm slouching in the photos because the shoulder pads in the dress tilt forward. I was very conscientious about keeping my shoulders back, so was a little startled to see how much it looks like I'm rolling them forward.

It was a wonderful night and I felt great and I can't wait for the crossover party so I can wear the Balenciaga I'm going to make! I LIVE to dress up and look pretty!

PS I'm labeling this as Sexy Sunday bc the party went into Sunday morning...

New Opening Night Dress

So I had all those blog entries about the leopard print opening night dress that I was making and believe me, I've been excited about it. I bought some nude pumps to wear with it last Saturday as the opening is quickly upon us (this Saturday). But then friend Christina texted me a picture of a beautiful 40s dress at a consignment shop and called me and wouldn't hang up until I'd promised to get in my car and come try it on, so I did, and I bought it, and it's beautiful and it fits me perfectly, I just need to turn up the hem. Christina has a picture of me in it I'll try to post later. You better believe there will be red stain on my lips and gobs of curls on my head. This is going to be a great party bc I'm going to look so good. Ug, can't wait until Saturday!

Also, I think black is a good choice bc I'm not sure the actors would recognize me out of blacks ;). ULTIMATE DRESS BLACKS!

It's like boot with a horse blanket!!! GAH! SO GREAT!

The whole store kept me very satisfied for quite awhile and smelled like lovely delicious leather, but not the overpowering chemical/polish smell you get from a leather goods store, just the faint and lovely smell of buttery animal hide.

Easter Couture

I don't get a new Easter dress this year, but I thought I'd dream a little and pick at least one dress from each Spring 2012 Couture show. I'm not raving about all of them, but I decided I had to choose one from each, some wouldn't load, so there you go. I added some Oscar de la Renta, which isn't a couturier, but de la Renta is just so feminine.
