I'm sure all you costume drama junkies have noticed the phenomena of unattractive "attractive" characters. It's a tale as old as time: the Brits and the Americans disagreeing about pronunciations, vocab and what is pleasant to look at. Let's look at a brief list of characters that are written as so ravishing and unblievably attractive they inspire entire monologues and lead to hasty and rash decisions by the heroes.
Jodhi May in everything is beautiful enough to inspire proposals, rape and choosing her over Romola Garai? |
Irene from The Forsyte Saga inspires rash proposals, affairs and rape bc she's SO beautiful? |
Jane from Pride and Prejudice '95. NOT the prettiest. |
Did someone forget to change the writing ab how hot the Doctor is after David Tennant left? |
Angel from the newest Tess of the D'Urbervilles, named Angel bc he's so great...? |
You all know Daniel Craig's face is actually not attractive right? |
I totally know that Daniel Craig's face isn't attractive. lol
ReplyDelete1) Rape is not inspired by beauty, but control.
ReplyDelete2) Daniel Craig's voice, demeanor, and abs take care of the rest, for me.
First of all, beauty is subjective. I find most of the actresses and actors you mentioned here extremely attractive. Not to mention, beauty standards are changing all the time. (But sure, your preferences are one and only true standard, all across the globe and history).... Delusion of grandeur, much? Second, and most important. R_pe is "inspired" by beauty?! WTF?! What is wrong with you? Did you just literally proclaimed that some women are "so ugly, they are not worth r_pe"? Again, what is wrong with you?!
