too horrible by half: leggings

Leggings are not pants people!! Nor are "footless tights". You're only allowed to wear leggings if you are a beautiful European woman wearing them under a skirt that goes to your knees at least, and if you are you're probably over this horrible fad by now anyway. Worse than leggings in general are metallic, animal print or otherwise horrified variations on that theme. Gross. Sometimes I wonder what my generation will get made fun of for down the line (bell bottoms, shoulder pads etc) and I already know my kids are going to have a heyday w/ leggings. When will this monstrocity of a trend end?!

update: Indians are also aloud to wear leggings because they invented them, and wear them w/ long tops.

  1. I feel exactly the same way about leggings. They are awful!

  2. I think you did pick the most atrocious examples of leggings, m'dear. We wear leggings under kameezes and longer tops now--saves us the trouble of having to find a matching churidaar.

  3. When you're a teenager and you fall in love with an adorable little dress, that's 'too short' in your mother's books. The ONLY way to go is leggings. I just bought a dress of the short and my mom bought me three pairs of leggings which aren't see-through and look amazing with the dress. They're young and fashionable. Easily worn with heels(because anything with feet looks bad in heels.) Pantyhose is too old for teens and tights with feet and crotch guards (or whatever those big white pieces of material are) are too young. Pantyhose are the teen alternative. Do you really want skanky-looking fifteen year old kids running around your home/town/sons? Wearing dresses to their thighs? I think I'd rather see patterned material than bare bottoms with g-strings riding up them. I'm sure many others agree.

  4. I like to see a bit of "eye-candy" in the street, and contour-hugging leggings are ideal. I think tops that intrude anywhere below the waistline and thus hinder the view should be made illegal :D
